Septic Repair vs. Septic Replacement: How the Decision Is Made
Repair versus replacement should be decided after evaluating the actual problem, accessible system components, site conditions, and any applicable local requirements.
When repair may be considered
A component issue involving a line, baffle, filter, pump, or float switch may have a focused repair path. The condition and cause must be assessed first.
When replacement may be discussed
Replacement may be discussed when the system condition, site, drain-field performance, or required scope cannot reasonably be addressed with a limited repair. Government approvals may be required.
Questions to ask
Ask what issue was observed, which components are involved, what the proposed work includes, what it excludes, and whether permits or inspections are needed for the scope.
